Cosmetic treatments to improve your confidence

Cosmetic surgery is part and parcel of modern life, with an increasing number of people opting to visit a dentist or surgeon in a bid to improve the way they look.

Cosmetic surgery is a controversial subject and many people have different views on whether or not people should have surgery. For some people, cosmetic surgery is a means of improving the way they look but for others it provides a source of confidence and a means of fitting in with everybody else. For people who are uncomfortable in their own skin, cosmetic surgery can restore their self-esteem and enable them to live a happy and fulfilled life.

Cosmetic dentistry is another area which is booming; following the popularity of programmes like Extreme Makeover and 10 Years Younger and numerous celebrity endorsements of the perfect Hollywood smile, many people are choosing to have cosmetic dental treatments to give them a beautiful set of pearly whites. Cosmetic treatments are available right across the UK and new treatments are being developed every year. For people who have lost teeth due to extensive decay or have orthodontic problems, cosmetic dental treatments can provide the answer. Many dentists offer cosmetic dental treatments alongside general dental treatments, including fillings and root canal treatment.

The cost of cosmetic treatments varies according to which surgeon or dentist you choose and where the clinic is based; consultants and dentists usually charge more than in other parts of the country. Many people are profiting from the boom in cosmetic treatments and are snapping up surgeries and taking a helping hand from dental guide to practices.

There is a reason why you need a tooth extraction

Dentists perform too many tooth extractions for this day and age, and the need for root canals is another worry.  When will people learn that they are told by their parents, their dentists, doctors, even their teachers at school to take care of their teeth for good reason?

I am happy to see that the market has shifted more and more in favour of cosmetic treatments because although repair and prevention of problems are a vital part of the dentist’s role, as a populace we should surely by now be capable of educating our own citizens about the importance of maintaining their teeth and gums.  If anyone hasn’t got the message yet that they need to at the very least brush their teeth, with toothpaste, twice a day then I don’t know how they have achieved that.

It wouldn’t even be so bad if people just went to the dentist earlier, rather than waiting until an extraction is necessary.  If you have a problem with your teeth or gums you need to see a dentist about it soon, not wait until it develops into a worse condition.  A filling is a lot less uncomfortable and costly than having a tooth removed when you consider that the gap needs to be then filled with a bridge or implanted denture in order to avoid further damage to the jaw and neighbouring teeth.

How Can I Find a Good Orthodontist?

Finding a good orthodontist is critical in the care of your teeth. Orthodontists are dentists who have completed additional training in orthodontics. This training program requires an extra two to three years of schooling and certification. Only those with this qualification can call themselves an orthodontist. One of the best ways to find an Invisalign specialist is to ask around. Ask your friends who their family orthodontist is. Also, ask your regular dentist who they would recommend.

Many times a dentists will have a regular referral system in their dentistry practice that directs patients who need braces to a specific, trusted orthodontist. Another way is to read reviews on the internet. Before scheduling an appointment to get braces, be sure to set up a consultation with the orthodontist to be sure that you like him or her. Personality and bed side manner are very important in putting patients at ease while getting braces.

Fertility and pregnancy

Pregnancy is one of the most life-changing experiences a couple can go through but for some people, having a baby is an unachievable goal. Around 5 percent of couples in the UK are infertile and fertility treatment is not always effective. Infertility may be caused by many different factors; however, medical problems are usually the source of the problem. Infertility can affect both men and women and lifestyle factors can play their part as well as health problems; heavy drinking, regular smoking and eating unhealthily can all reduce fertility.

If you are suffering from infertility, you may be able to get fertility treatment on the NHS; this usually involves taking fertility drugs or doing cycles of IVF; the results are not guaranteed but there is around 30 percent chance of success.

If you are really distressed by the appearance of excess hair, you may want to consider getting laser hair removal but it is advisable to wait until you’ve had your treatment. Similar treatment is available to remove tattoos; many women find that when their skin stretches during pregnancy this can make their tattoos look unattractive; tattoo removal by means of laser is safe and effective and is also relatively painless.
