Dietietic Services

There is a dietician on site at the Liverpool Women’s Hospital two and a half days each week. She provides a service to both the obstetric and gynaecology directorates.

Obstetric Directorate
Here she provides advice to a range of pregnant women identified as being at particular risk of malnutrition during pregnancy e.g women with multiple allergies, malabsurbtion syndromes, eating disorders etc., She also attends the Medical Disorders of pregnancy clinic. Here she works jointly with the diabetes teams from the RWH and BGH to provide comprehensive package of diabetes care to women with IDDM or NIDDM who are or want to become pregnant. Similarly for women who develop diabetes during pregnancy (gestational diabetes). She also provides advice to women who develop Hyperemenis gravidarum during pregnancy.
Gynaecology Directorate

The dietitians main work here is with the women who develop gynaecological cancers. The cancers and their treatment (i.e surgery, radiotherapy or chemotherapy) can seriously impair nutritional status. The dietitian works closely with the oncology
and palliative care teams to optimise patients nutritional state.
