| The Patient's Charter
(1991) states that "A named qualified nurse, midwife or health
visitor will be responsible for your nursing care".
As The Hewitt Centre is an out-patients department with many people
attending each week, having a named nurse will mean that a member
of the nursing staff will spend time with you at your clinic appointment.
You will get to know most of the nursing staff during your treatment
and any of them will be able to help you or answer any questions
that you may wish to ask. But if you are very worried or upset by
something, you can ask to speak to your named nurse if you wish.
If on duty, your named nurse will always try to respond to your
request. Occasionally this may not be possible.
In order to achieve the named nurse approach and contribute toward
quality care, the nursing staff of the Unit have taken the following
action:-
- Photographs and names of all the nursing staff working on the
Unit are displayed in the waiting room.
- All nursing staff in the Unit have name badges with their forenames
on which they will wear whilst on duty.
- The nursing staff will introduce themselves to you when you
come into contact with them for the first time.
- One nurse is allocated to co-ordinate each clinic held on the
Unit
- The name of the doctor and nurse involved with each clinic on
the Unit will be displayed each day in the waiting room
- During your first visit to the Unit, you will be introduced
to your named nurse
- If, for some reason, you are already attending the Unit and
have not been allocated a named nurse, this will be done at a
review-follow up clinic.
- If your named nurse leaves the Unit you will be allocated another
nurse.
- If you choose to change your named nurse this will be organised
by the senior nurse on duty
- If your named nurse feels that another nurse would be better
able to look after you this will be discussed with you
We hope that having a 'named nurse' will help to improve your visits
to the Unit.
